About Us

An agency started by an adoptive parent that wanted to give back to the adoption community.  We love adoption and all the families we are lucky enough to meet.

Domestic Adoptions in Kentucky

Heart to Home Adoption Agency, LLC (HTH) is a licensed Kentucky adoption agency that provides home studies, post placement visits, adoptive and foster parent education and referrals to other professional agencies to prospective adoptive/foster parents in Kentucky seeking to adopt domestically. We offer face to face meetings to support our adoptive families and our placing parents.
HTH also provides birth parent services such as pregnancy counseling and resource, medical and legal referrals. Heart to Home does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, creed, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
“Heart to Home is an agency that believes everyone deserves love and is capable of giving it and receiving it. My family changed with adoption. Our goal is to offer a loving and dedicated service to children, placing parents, and adoptive parents”
– Leigh Shapiro, Founder & Executive Director, Heart to Home Adoption

LEXINGTON, KY. (LEX 18) – Each year in America about 135,000 babies are adopted, but what happens to the birth mothers once the baby has been placed in their new home? A Lexington non-profit is pledging to provide resources and to stay by their sides and shining a light on the need for support.

Kendal Butler and Todd Harp waited to become parents but when the timing was right, the stars aligned, and the universe showed up in a big way for them. With the landmark Supreme Court ruling in 2015, the couple was able to legally marry so they could both be listed on their child’s birth certificate. Kendal affirms, “This was important to us because before that breakthrough, most LGBT parents had to choose one parent to be the legal parent.” Once they began the process with Leigh Shapiro-Walton from Heart to Home Adoption Agency in late May of 2015, Todd recalls that Kendal would often quote Johann Wolfgang von Goethe saying, “At the moment of commitment the entire universe conspires to assist you.” For this inspiring team of Super Dads, no words could be truer.

Finding a forever home

You won’t find many 9-month-old boys with a fuller head of hair or a bigger smile that Joel. And while he may be too young to know it right now, you’d be hard pressed to find as many as blessed either.
Joel is the product of an unplanned, unexpected pregnancy. Yet, his mother loved him enough to choose life, and to help choose his forever parents. Those happy and proud parents are Steve and Alisha Rucker.
Steve, the principal at Taylorsville Elementary School, said the events leading up to Joel’s adoption that became official just over a week ago, were providential.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a more God-ordained situation. Every time there were trials, God smacked them down,” he said of the adoption process.
The story began long before Joel was conceived.
